ABOUT · FOUNDER
Andrea Hegedűs founder of Andrea Hegedűs Design was born in Budapest, Hungary into a family of entrepreneurs active in the creative field. Her parents ran a successful textile and knitting business as well as some of her family members are renowned craftsmen and artists in Hungary.
In her teenage years, Andrea had also shown exceptional skills different creative fields and she became an award winning solo dancer that topped her 12 years long professional dance engagement. After she received a painting set as a gift, her creative development path took a slightly different but colorful route and she returned to her family's textile roots.
In 1997 Andrea successfully completed her studies at the Faculty of Textile of the Hungarian Academy of Art and Design. Upon graduation she spent valuable time in Switzerland, Germany and France, and worked with the best creators of the high-end textile and fabrics industry. When returning to Hungary, Andrea founded her independent design studio in Budapest and since then she has been establishing her reputation as an innovative designer with a distinct client focus.
Andrea's latest innovation, the glass textile, an art inspired mélange of glass and textile first revealed at the 100% Design exhibition in London in 2011 was received exceptionally well by the market. Her glass textile creations now nicely embellish four stations of the recently opened iconic metro line in Budapest (Line 4). She is a sought-after designer at various high-ranking international exhibitions such as in London, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Budapest and private and corporate clients alike favor her creations.
The designer's glass textile collections have been selected to be showcased in the Materfad Barcelona Collection and in The Design Book: 1000 New Designs For The Home and Where to Find Them published in May 2013 by Laurence King.
